Self-Directed Support Process

Self-Directed Support is a new system. It’s about people being in control of the support they need to live their life as they choose. Below describes the process a person must go through to receive a personal budget. (Also see 7 steps to In-Control for further information)

  • You fill out a self assessment questionnaire where points are then allocated for each question.
  • The points are then converted to pounds which gives an ‘indicative budget’
  • You then design your support plan, either on your own or with the support of family, friend, independent broker or provider. This will link into the person centered plan and will detail each area what your budget will be spent on. The care manager then needs to agree the plan.
  • Once the care manager and panel have agreed the support plan, the money will then become available.
  • You can now go and live the plan. The local authority will review the plan annually.
