Options have long believed that people with learning disabilities have a valuable contribution to make to society. Often viewed as people to be ‘looked after’, ‘helped’ or ‘cared for’, Options have wanted to enable and empower the people supported to have opportunities to serve others and gain satisfaction from what they do. To this end, Options has sought to facilitate opportunities for people to find paid or voluntary work, and to be active in their local communities. In 2006, a new dream began to grow. The trustees of our organisation decided they would like to further develop the expression of these beliefs and values by creating an opportunity for a group of people with learning disabilities, to travel to the developing world and engage in some form of social project. The opportunity given to the group that went was a once in a lifetime chance to explore. The memories are priceless and everlasting. For each person who went we believe they have gained personal satisfaction.
For more information about the Kenya trip we would be pleased to send you a copy of our DVD which documents the whole two weeks. We will also send you copies of our Kenya magazine which details the aims of the trip, the schedule for the two weeks alongside personal experiences.
