- Books On PrescriptionThe Books on Prescription scheme is a national scheme to offer support to adults with common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, stress, panic, bereavement etc as there was (and still is) much evidence to suggest that books/ bibliotherapy could be used as a way of offering support to those with common mental health problems. All the self-help books have a strong evidence base (majority based on CBT) aimed at adults with mild to moderate mental health problems. Within Halton and St Helens the self-help books are available at all libraries. People can get the books out for themselves, using a library card but if they visit their GP or a health professional, they can be prescribed the book for up to 8 weeks This is a valuable resource for the public and that staff can use as a sign-posting resource or even as a easier way of approaching the subject of mental wellbeing in a non-stigmatised way. Please see attached book list and books on prescription information leaflet (or the link below) for more details. http://www.mhdirectory.net/organisation/books-prescription Oh What a relief websiteThis website offers valuable resources to help you recognise anxiety, depression, insomnia and stress and helps you, or someone you care for cope with the thoughts and feelings associated with them. They are online multimedia programs which offer an immediate access to proven self help solutions for common mental health problems.Available online at anytime, these easy to use programs provide access for individuals and appeal particularly to busy people and those with a specific need for privacy. Advice on Prescription
Advice on Prescription is a joint project run by NHS Halton and St Helens, Halton & St Helens Health Improvement Team (HIT) and Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB). The aim of the project is to fast-track people visiting their GP who have mental health problems due to social welfare issues into more appropriate support services rather than referring into psychological therapies. Upon identifying a suitable patient, the GP refers into CAB services and within 24 hours of receiving the referral, a debt advisor rings the patient to assess which CAB intervention was required.
This service is only available via GP, Open Mind and psychological therapy service.
